Palagonite a naturally occurring volcanic mineral soil amendment that offers several benefits for gardening. Palagonite provides abundant magnesium and calcium, two key minerals in soil health. The balance between the two provides a breathable soil, and support non-pathogenic aerobic microbial activity
Palagonite is formed through the weathering of volcanic basalt rocks and contains a wide range of essential plant nutrients. It is rich in minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, and trace elements. These nutrients provide a natural source of plant nutrition, promoting healthy growth and development.
Has a neutral to slightly alkaline pH, which can help balance acidic soils. It acts as a natural pH buffer, helping to bring the soil towards a more neutral range. This is particularly beneficial for plants that prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil conditions.
Improved Soil Structure
When added to soil, palagonite improves its structure by promoting aggregation and reducing compaction. It helps create a loose and friable soil texture, allowing for better water infiltration, root penetration, and nutrient absorption. Improved soil structure enhances root development and overall plant health.
Water Retention and Drainage
Palagonite has the ability to retain moisture while also allowing excess water to drain away. It helps create a balanced soil moisture environment, preventing waterlogging and ensuring adequate hydration for plants. The optimal water retention and drainage properties of palagonite contribute to healthy root growth and minimize the risk of root rot.
Supports beneficial microbial activity in the soil. It provides a habitat for beneficial soil microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi, which play important roles in nutrient cycling, organic matter decomposition, and overall soil health. The presence of these microorganisms can enhance nutrient availability to plants and improve soil fertility.
Increased Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC)
Palagonite has a high cation exchange capacity, meaning it has the ability to attract, hold, and release plant nutrients. This improves nutrient retention in the soil and enhances the availability of essential elements for plants. The increased CEC of palagonite helps reduce nutrient leaching and ensures efficient nutrient uptake by plant roots.
The mineral composition of palagonite, combined with its favorable soil conditions, can contribute to disease resistance in plants. It supports a healthy soil environment that may be less conducive to the development and spread of certain plant diseases, providing a natural defense mechanism.
Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly
Palagonite is a natural, sustainable, and environmentally friendly soil amendment. It is derived from volcanic basalt rocks and does not contain synthetic chemicals or harmful additives. Its use promotes a more sustainable and organic approach to gardening.
Used in various gardening applications, including garden beds, potting mixes, container gardening, and composting. It is suitable for a wide range of plants, from vegetables and fruits to flowers and ornamentals
Palagonite is a durable mineral that can provide long-lasting benefits to the soil. It does not break down quickly and can remain effective for several years, reducing the need for frequent reapplication
Direction For Use
Add 1 cup to 25 litres of soil or potting mix
Garden Safety Tips
When doing gardening always wear a P2 / FFP2 / N95 KN95 Safety Mask 4ply to keep your respiratory health from harmful micro organisms, dust, pollution or vapors. General potting mix contains plenty of micro organisms. Always wear your safety gears such as mask, glove and googles when working with them.
A common media when mixing with your potting mix are Vermiculite, Perlite, Coco coir and Mineral products. They may contain micro dust particles, which you want to avoid harming your lungs. Especially Perlite dust particles, they are glass like and breathing them in will cause irreversible damage to your lungs. So always stay safe and wear your N95 / KN95 / P2 / FFP2 / KF94 grade protective mask to avoid any unnecessary health risk.
